Cornwall & Charlestown

1st Oct - half way through the trip

We finally reached St. Austell and Mike took us down to the old port of Charlestown. This was mostly built in the mid to late 18 hundreds to ship China clay. It's interesting that it has a lock into the harbour - but the lock is fed from a stream higher up so that regardless of the tide - the ships being loaded are always afloat

There are some great cottages and pubs etc., around the dock

Luckily development has been kept well away.
Mike's wife Suzanne loves feeding the wildlife including this family of Badgers. They were never around when I lived in UK - but they have made a comeback and 1/2 the population love them, and the other 1/2 wnt to shoot them s carriers of bovine TB. This lot will stand up and bng on the windows if there is no food put out for them!
