Sandringham and Hunstanton

20th Sep

Called in to catch up with friends Liz and Phil in their (mostly Victorian) pile.

Unfortunately they could only spare a half hour or so to give us cuppa. As they were busy polishing this horse-drawn shooting brake. Guaranteed to be able to hang 250 brace of pheasants away from the flies. I think Phil had ideas of putting it into service again - drawn by a bunch of carriage horses.
We had a nice lunch in the cafe there - smoked salmon, cream cheese and watercress sandwiches on Brown bread. Seemed rather royal to me.
Then a walk around the manicured grounds on the other side of the lake. It was all very interesting and it seemed to me that the Royal family are living very much in their Victorian past (at least in their Sandringham home). I was staggered to hear that there are still 18 full time game keepers employed on the estate........

Later we drove to the nearby seaside resort of Hunstanton. Sent a long time trying to find the coloured sands (cliffs). Eventually got onto the beach and were not too game to walk near the cliffs as they are falling into the sea at a great rate - like most of the North Norfolk coast.
