Really ancient history

14 Sep Middle to North of Dublin

We drove to little North of Dublin to find a B & B so we could return the car to the Airport tomorrow.

We had no idea that we were just down the road were some of the oldest man made buildings in the world. The Neolithic sites at Knowth
and Newgrange.

Absolutely amazing - 1,000 years older than Stonehenge and 2,000 years older than the pyramids

No metal tools, the wheel had not been invented, and yet they built these enormous structures, and had a good knowledge of when and where the solar solstices would occur.

We went down inside one barrow - beautifully constructed tunnel about 50 M long into a triple burial chamber.
These sites more than made up for our disappointment about not getting to the Arran islands - and it was almost by chance.

Off to U.K. Tomorrow
