Whitstable and Canterbury

19th Oct - fine and windy (pretty 'crisp' actually)

We went first to Whitstable on the Thames estuary as it was recommended as a possible overnight stay. But the wind seemed to be howling straight off the North Sea and we had a walk along what is laughingly called the beach. Quite large stones mainly, complete with those typically English bathing huts. No one there of course. One hut was for sale "fully furnished" - I wonder what was in it? We decided not to stay.
But we did like this house with the picture.

Then drove into Canterbury to visit the Cathedral which was just overwhelming. So absolutely HUGE. It must have really impressed the pilgrims in 800 AD or so.

The nave is so tall it blows the mind. All you can really do is to buy the guide books and DVDs to get the full story.

And full of really old tombs of course - this Elizabethan one was probably one of the more modern ones.
