Woburn Abbey

Fri 15th Oct (Part 1) - Generally dry.

Went to Woburn Abbey - back in 'my day' it was home to the Duke and Duchess of Bedford. They were possibly the first of the 'Landed Gentry' to set up a Wild animal park and other things to raise a bit of cash. We drove around the 'Safari trail' up close and personal with many of the animals.

The only thing that actually jumped on the car was a largish monkey - and I was pleased about that as I wondered what a lion's claws might do to the rental car finish.

The house itself was closed except at weekends at this time of year - but we walked around it and checked out the great gardens

There were literally hundreds (possibly thousands) of Deer in the park. The big stags had gathered their 'harems' together - some groups probably a hundred or more. It was the rutting season so there was a lot of noise but not a lot of action. Not surprising really if the stags had to take care of a hundred or more!
